It is very attractive to use ascii code in forums and other places where other HTML tags are not allowed. You might have noticed characters like ★ ✔ • ☁ in many such places. These chars are not available directly on your keyboards if you need to place it , you may use ALT + Ascii code or just copy paste it

Recently there was a notification from Government of Karnataka to submit your identification details pertaining to your LPG gas connection. Now it is time to check whether verification is completed. You can go to the Government of Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies department website and click on the scrolling text. It will take you to a page where you need to select the district , Gas agency name and Consumer number.

It will let you know whether the verification is completed or pending. If you have multiple gas connections on same ration card or electricity bill then they may track that and come down to verify it manually.

As you know government is getting smarter with online facilities and it also adds value to the service which they provide.

How to fix request entity too large blackberry

Recently i have upgraded my Blackberry and from then I have been getting the error “request entity too large”. I was wondering what this error is. I had gone through few of the forums and it says it could be an issue with your bandwidth limit and need to check with the operator. I had given a try but it didn’t help much. The actual fix was so simple and I am now able to browse all the websites and videos as earlier.

Fix for request entity too large

The fix for this problem is just two steps as follows
click on Options —> Advanced Options —–> Browser : Make default Browser ‘Internet Browser’

Now load your browser
Load browser —-> browser options ——> Cache Operations: Clear all the Cache

It should be fixed and you would be able to browse all the websites.

How to create a mysql database using cpanel and add users to db

There may be situations where you need to create databases using cpanel such as while setting up forums or helpdesk tools or any applications which require a database to store data. Many times we don’t realize that wordpress is using its own database if you have installed wordpress using fantastico or quick install. These tools will create the database and populate tables required for the wordpress by itself. But when comes to the applications which are installed outside the cpanel or not through cpanel then you may have to go through the steps of creating database and adding users to this database. Later this username , password and database name would be required to install the applications such as vbulletin or mybb etc.

1. Login to cpanel

2. click on Mysql

3. Type in your DB Name to be created according to your choice

4. Create a user and attach that user to the DB which you have created

Bangalore metro to introduce Smart transit cards with SBI

Bangalore Metro rail project is delayed, but they are going to be the first in the world to introduce the smart transit card which can be also used as a debit card. This is a in house developed technology by State bank of India. Besides using it as a transit card , it can also be used as ATM card for cash withdrawal and purchase.

This e-purse can be topped up through any SBI’s atm, mobile banking , internet banking and counters at Metro railway stations. This contact free , chip enabled smart card will provide a easy travel in Metro railway. They are planning to provide this card to all SBI account holders initially.Regular SBI customers can surrender their existing ATM cards and request for Metro transit card.

How to topup your Metro transit card

Topup will be allowed in multiple ways, Through cash counters at the stations, the SBI ATMs and through mobile and internet banking. They can topup through ATM by selecting the option ” services” then enter the pin and select “BMRCL topup” then enter your 11 digit card number and the amount to recharge. Topup recharge can be done maximum of Rs. 1000 and minimum of Rs 100.

Google is getting ready to capture the empire which was lost few years back on social media domain. Google Plus also known as G plus is the latest social networking tool from Google for competing with facebook and regain the kingdom. Google plus launch date and its strategies are kept secret now.

How to disable directory listing in cpanel – hostgator security

Listing directory content on a webserver is not a good security practice. But it is noticed that if you are using cpanel for managing your domain, by default directory listing is enabled. You can check this by typing http://www.yourdomain.com//

If it lists the files and folders then this guide is to explain how to disable it.

1. If you don’t have many directories simple way is to create a simple plain index.html file and place it on the directory where you want to block directory listing. Default behavior of a web server is to show any of these file such as index.htm,index.html. index.php, index.asp etc. It would be tedious for you to place these index files on each directories if you have to manage lot of sub folders on your web server.

2. cpanel provides a cool feature to disable directory listing, You can navigate to cpanel –> advance –> index manager , select your root directory , select no indexing . Simple, its done !!

3. Another option is to create a .htaccess file in your root with following content (depending on your requirement)
# This will not show anything
IndexIgnore *
#This will not show gif and png images, but will list everything else
IndexIgnore *.gif *.png

How to import / Export your subscriptions from google reader – RSS reader OPML format

Google reader is one of ‘the‘ best RSS readers available online. In case if you are using any other online or desktop RSS Readers, then you may try switching to Google reader. When you plan to switch to or from any of these readers, the main problem you might face is your existing subscriptions and how to move these subscriptions to the new reader. Most of the major RSS readers have options to import and export RSS subscriptions in OPML file format. It is basically a XML format which can be used to move your subscriptions to another RSS readers.

How to export / import RSS subscription on google reader

In Google reader , you have to go to the “options” click on Reader settings and then click on import / export. You can do the required action here. here is a screen shot which may help you to identify where the Reader setting is located in Google reader.

Similarly if you want to move from Google reader to any other RSS Reader , you can export the subscriptions and save it as an XML file, go to your required RSS reader, there you should find a import option to import all your subscriptions. OPML is a standard format which most of the RSS readers support.
